Interior Finishes
The interior of an older and historic home, including both built-in-features and applied finishes, are important in defining the historic character of a building. The visible decorative features of historic interiors might include decorative grilles, lighting fixtures, ornamental switchplates, and decorative wallpapers. Interior finishes tell us a story about how we decorated over time.
As we preserve our buildings, it is important not to only consider the outer shell of the building but to also consider how people saw and expressed themselves in the finishes of their homes.
