WEBSITE AIDS HOMEOWNERS IN HIRING CONTRACTORS

Have you been holding off on home repairs because of the expense or headache of finding reliable contractors? Hiring a contractor to work on an older home can be intimidating. To help homeowners find qualified people the Cleveland Restoration Society’s website features a user-friendly guide to hiring and working with contractors that includes a checklist of questions to ask. Visit www.clevlandrestoration.org and click on Resource Library to find the contractor guide and other helpful information, such as how to determine the architectural style of your home and links to other homeowner resources.

The Cleveland Restoration Society, a non-profit organization, offers technical assistance and low interest loans to owners of older and historic (50+ years) homes in Cuyahoga County. Current loan rates are 2% to 3.5%, with repayment terms of 10-12 years. Technical assistance includes recommendations on such issues as masonry repair, window restoration, roof repair, and historic paint color schemes. For more information, call (216) 426-1000.

The Cleveland Restoration Society/Preservation Resource Center of Northeastern Ohio is the region’s largest non-profit preservation organization and is a Local Partner affiliate of the National Trust. Founded in 1972, the Society is dedicated to the preservation of greater Cleveland’s historic resources.
