EVENT TO BENEFIT SACRED
LANDMARKS
On Saturday,
June 26, 2004, the Cleveland Restoration Society / Preservation
Resource Center of Northeastern Ohio will hold its 8th Annual Sacred
Landmarks Benefit at the historic Antioch Baptist Church, 8869 Cedar
Road, and HealthSpace Cleveland, 8911 Euclid Avenue. Reverend Marvin
McMickle, Pastor of Antioch Baptist Church, is Honorary Chairman.
The evening
begins at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction
in the recently restored White Mansion on Euclid Avenue, followed
by an inspirational musical program at Antioch Baptist Church. Guests
will then enjoy an elegant seated dinner in the HealthSpace Cleveland
exhibit gallery.
Architect
Frank B. Meade designed the White mansion for Henry Windsor White
of White Motor Company in 1901. Now home to Healthspace Cleveland’s
administrative offices, Bucchieri Architects and contractor R. W.
Clark completed a $1.3 million dollar renovation of the mansion
in 2003, restoring historic decorative details such as an ornate
plaster ceiling, eight original fireplaces, and beautiful birch,
mahogany, and white oak wall paneling and trim.
Antioch
Baptist Church is one of the city’s leading Baptist congregations.
Architect William Warren Sabin designed the church building in 1892
for the Bolton Avenue Presbyterian Church congregation. The building
was sold to Antioch Baptist Church in 1934. Today, Antioch Baptist
Church has a strong membership, boasts five active choirs and provides
vital outreach services to the surrounding neighborhood.
The annual
benefit raises much-needed funding for the Cleveland Restoration
Society’s Sacred Landmarks Assistance Program, an interdenominational
program to assist religious institutions in Northeastern Ohio with
the repair and maintenance of their properties. The Sacred Landmarks
Assistance Program provides technical assistance to congregations
that own architecturally and historically significant buildings.
Tickets
range in price from $175 for an individual to $5,000 for a Gold
Table of eight. For reservations or additional information, call
the Society at (216) 426-1000.
The Cleveland
Restoration Society/Preservation Resource Center of Northeastern
Ohio is the region’s largest non-profit preservation organization
and is a Local Partner affiliate of the National Trust for Historic
Preservation. Founded in 1972, the Society is dedicated to the preservation
of Greater Cleveland’s historic resources.
