RESTORATION SOCIETY HEAD
TO SPEAK IN AKRON
On Monday, January
26, 2004 Cleveland Restoration Society executive director Kathleen
H. Crowther will speak at Progress Through Preservation’s
Annual Meeting at the Sheraton Suites, 1989 Front Street, in Cuyahoga
Falls. The program begins at 6:00 p.m. with a cash bar followed
by dinner and the keynote address at 7:30 p.m. Crowther’s
talk, “Partners for Preservation in Our Region,” will
feature the Society’s successful Heritage Home Program. The
cost is $30.00 per person. For information and registration, call
Rosemary Reymann of Progress Through Preservation at 330-867-8621.
The Heritage Home
Program, a partnership between the Cleveland Restoration Society
(CRS), Cuyahoga County Treasurer James Rokakis, and KeyBank, provides
free technical assistance and low interest loans to owners of older
and historic homes in fourteen cities in Cuyahoga County: Bay Village,
Chagrin Falls, Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, East Cleveland, Euclid,
Lakewood, Olmsted Falls, Rocky River, Shaker Heights, Solon, South
Euclid, University Heights and Westlake. Designed to counter the
trend of population moving further from the urban center and an
aging housing stock, the program targets owners of homes 50 years
of age or older. Cuyahoga County estimates that 275,131 of its
housing units were built prior to 1949. Since September 2001, CRS
has made over 600 site visits and fielded more than 1,000 telephone
inquiries. To date, 122 loans have been signed, representing approximately
$4.0 million dollars in community reinvestment.
The Cleveland Restoration
Society/Preservation Resource Center of Northeastern Ohio is the
region’s largest non-profit preservation organization and
is a Local Partner affiliate of the National Trust. Founded in
1972, the Society is dedicated to the preservation of Greater Cleveland’s
historic resources.
