REGIONAL PRESERVATION CONFERENCE TO BE HELD IN OBERLIN
On Saturday, May 31, 2003 from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., the
Cleveland Restoration Society and Preservation Resource Center
of Northeastern Ohio will hold a regional historic preservation
conference, Building Community Through Preservation, in Oberlin,
Ohio. The conference will draw participants from throughout northeastern
Ohio and will offer an intensive series of lectures, tours and
workshops to help build our region’s knowledge of preservation
tools and techniques.
Cuyahoga County Treasurer, James Rokakis,
who has partnered with the Society to provide the Heritage Home
Loan Program for owners
of older and historic homes, will give the keynote address. Regional
and local experts will address such themes as listing a property
in the National Register of Historic Places, saving Ohio’s
historic neighborhood schools, and using green building techniques
in historic buildings. Local guides will offer walking tours of
Oberlin, Oberlin College and African American landmarks.
Sessions will be held in the Oberlin College Science Center, 130
West Lorain Street. The conference includes lunch and ends with
a special reception in the restored Peters Hall, a Richardsonian
Romanesque structure built in 1885 and restored in 1997. Tickets
are $35 for members of the Society and $45 for non-members. Scholarships
are available. For information and registration, call the Society
at (216) 426-1000.
The Cleveland Restoration Society/Preservation
Resource Center of Northeastern Ohio is the region’s largest non-profit preservation
organization and is a Local Partner affiliate of the National Trust.
Founded in 1972, the Society is dedicated to the preservation of
greater Cleveland’s historic resources.
