RESTORATION SOCIETY TOURS AFRICAN AMERICAN LANDMARKS
On Saturday, February 22, 2003 from 1:00
p.m. – 4:30 p.m.,
the Cleveland Restoration Society and Preservation Resource Center
of Northeastern Ohio will hold a trolley tour of historic African
American landmarks in celebration of Black History Month. The tour
will highlight residential restoration projects in the East Boulevard
Historic District, home to many African American professionals since
the 1940s. Local historian and author, Dr. Edward Miggins, will give
a brief lecture on African American migration to Cleveland at the
African American Museum. Also on the tour are landmarks listed in
the National Register of Historic Places and League Park, home of
the 1945 American Negro World Series champion Cleveland Buckeyes.
The event is open to the public. Tour tickets are $25 for members
and $35 for non-members. The trolley leaves from the Cleveland Restoration
Society’s headquarters at the Sarah Benedict House, 3751 Prospect
Avenue. For information and registration, call the Society at (216)
426-1000.
The Cleveland Restoration Society/Preservation
Resource Center of Northeastern Ohio is the region’s largest non-profit preservation
organization and is a Local Partner affiliate of the National Trust.
Founded in 1972, the Society is dedicated to the preservation of
greater Cleveland’s historic resources.
